Kings & Queens by Urban Cone

Pretty boring black and white, dimly lit video of the band playing mostly in silhouette. You can barely make out their bed-heads.

Urban Cone keep the Swedish synth-pop torch lit started by ABBA, with their début album, Our Youth. This song has more of an indie-vibe to it, than the rest of their stuff. Only about 4 songs caught my attention, because they’re not pop-tripe. Hopefully with their next album, they’ll shed some of their pop-ish sound for something a little grittier.

Save The Party For Me – Grouplove

Standard

Spreading_Rumours_Album_Art[1]No video for this song.

Grouplove jam this joyous melody. This is off their last album, Spreading Rumours.

This LA indie band have released one EP and 2 albums, the most recent in 2013. They’ve matured from an uptempo happy-sunshine band to a more melodic one while still keeping some it’s happiness.

All Who Remain by Beware of Darkness

Standard

An odd, somewhat blasé video about a funeral set sometime in the past.

Beware of Darkness build this song up slowly to a crescendo. This is off their debut album, Orthodox.

This alt-rock band has released just the one album, preceded by their only EP, Howl. If you like this song, you’ll probably like their other material which alternates between this sound and something a little heavier. On their website, however, they do appear to have new songs which do veer away from their initial sound into something a lot more pop-like. Yuck.

Until We Get There by Lucius

Standard

No video for this song, so below is the Soundcloud link.

Lucius give us a perfect song to add to our Sunday-afternoon-drive- to-the-park-for-a-picnic playlist.. This is off their only album, Wildewoman

Hailing from NY this band is relatively new to the music scene releasing their first of two EPs in 2012. This particular song has more of a dream-pop vibe than the rest of their sound. They’ve got a harder edge than presented here.

They Told Me by Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside

Standard

Interesting video. My take on it, is the man is wrestling with the woman inside him, and she’s winning.

Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside serve up a hotplate of Rockabilly smothered with angst and a side of old fashioned cool. This is off their latest album, Untamed Beast.

This Rockabillyesque band are my current favourite. They’ve released 3 albums thus far, all chock-full of great tunes to blast out your vintage car while cruising down the highway on a hot Sunday afternoon. If you like this tune, hurry out and pick up all 3 of their albums.
