You Rascal You by Hanni El Khatib

Standard

818SBlrjqcL._SL1500_[1]Hanni El Khatib rocks this tune with a hard electric guitar sound. This is off his debut album, Will the Guns Come Out.

Most of his music has a nice edge to it. He’s released 3 albums thus far with his latest, Moonlight, early this year. His music has been used in commercials and various TV shows from Californication to Luther to Gotham.

And to accompany the song, is this boring video about driving around at night and the lights of the city. All style, no substance.

Where the Kids Are by Blondfire

Standard

cover170x170[1]

Weird video about hunting down a panda.

This song first appeared on Blondfire‘s EP, Where the Kids Are, and is also included on their latest album, Young Heart.

Blondfire are an LA band whose members consist of a brother-and-sister duo. They’ve only 2 full albums, but they’re full of interesting indie pop songs.

The song starts at the 24 second mark, if you want to fast-forward past the opening…

Save The Party For Me – Grouplove

Standard

Grouplove jam this joyous melody. This is off their last album, Spreading Rumours.

This LA indie band have released one EP and 2 albums, the most recent in 2013. They’ve matured from an uptempo happy-sunshine band to a more melodic one while still keeping some it’s happiness.

The Difference Between Us by The Dead Weather

Standard

No video for this song. The song ends at 3:37, so no need to keep listening.

The Dead Weather wake the dead in a good way with this hard-core tune. This is off their second album, Sea of Cowards.

This band is made up of musicians from other popular bands:  Alison Mosshart of The Kills, Jack White (on drums) of The RaconteursDean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age, and Jack Lawrence of City and Colour. They’re set to release a new album some time this year. I’m not a big fan of the rest of their stuff, but this song really does kick-ass.

Where The Kids Are by Blondfire

Standard

This lame psychedelic video is nothing special, unless you like seeing people bathe in food.

Blondfire fill the dance floor with this ditty. This is off their third EP, Where The Kids Are.

This LA brother and sister duo have released a few EPS and 2 albums, the most recent, Young Heart in 2014. They have an indie pop vibe, and many of their songs are varied from each other. Which means you won’t get bored of them. If you don’t like one song, you’ll like another or, you’ll like most of them.

They Told Me by Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside

Standard

Interesting video. My take on it, is the man is wrestling with the woman inside him, and she’s winning.

Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside serve up a hotplate of Rockabilly smothered with angst and a side of old fashioned cool. This is off their latest album, Untamed Beast.

This Rockabillyesque band are my current favourite. They’ve released 3 albums thus far, all chock-full of great tunes to blast out your vintage car while cruising down the highway on a hot Sunday afternoon. If you like this tune, hurry out and pick up all 3 of their albums.

Something Is Not Right With Me by Cold War Kids

Standard

Generic boring band-playing video, shot in a warehouse.

Cold War Kids kick some ass with this fast-tempo ditty. This is off their second album, Loyalty to Loyalty.

With a few exceptions, like this song, I’m not a fan of the way their music is produced. They’ve released 4 albums (with their latest this month), and 8 EPs (half of them live). I just wish I could like them.

Peaches by In The Valley Below

Standard

No video for this song.

In The Valley Below play this duet to a nice melodious groove.

Another band I don’t know much about. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to make a website so your fans could find out more about you! They’re not even on MySpace.

Let’s Go Surfing by The Drums

Standard

Not sure why they’d film a surf rock video at nighttime. Kind of boring.

The Drums start with a simple guitar surf-lick and some whistling to suck you in, and never let you go. The vocals also complement the music well. This is off their EP, Summertime! as well as their debut self-titled album, The Drums.

This American band have released two albums, and two EPs, chock full of tunes to surf to. If you’re looking for variety, don’t bother, as this band’s specialty is surf rock served on a hot plate.

Let Up by Now Its Overhead

Standard

No video for this song.

With the opening few guitar chords, this simple song from Now Its Overhead, hooks you in. This is off their third album, Dark Light Daybreak.

This now defunct band have only released 3 albums and 2 EPs, so it’s not too hard to hunt down their material, if you’re a fan. Most of their music is more Alt, than Indie, and it’s a shame that they did not create more music before calling it quits.
